Advent I

This coming Sunday marks the beginning of Advent, a penitential season of expectation and preparation for the coming of Jesus Christ, both in his historical birth in Bethlehem and his future triumphant return in glory.

During the four weeks of Advent the postlude each week will be a different chorale prelude by J. S. Bach found in the Orgelbuchlein. This week the postlude is a setting of NUN KOMM DER HEIDEN HEILAND which is also the Introit Hymn.

This Sunday's Solemnity marks the end of the Church's liturgical year. Next week we begin the "C" cycle of the lectionary and observe the beginning of Advent.

The prelude is a harmonized setting of the chant "Christus Vincit." The postlude is "Pasticcio" by Jean Langlais.
